2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road, where the soil combined with the ocean’s cooling influence creates the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir. Fruit aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry join with fragrant notes of nutmeg, thyme and lavender; big and luscious mouthfeel with rich tannins lead to a lasting finish.
The 2012 vintage gave us excellent growing conditions and produced grapes with exceptional color and body. The vines were harvested in late September and early October, with ten percent of the harvest undergoing whole-berry fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruity flavors of the grape. The wine was then aged in newer French oak barrels for 10 months. This vintage of our Pinot Noir serves up a delicious array of berry fruit flavors. The excellent aroma combined with its rich body and smooth tannins makes for an exceptionally enjoyable wine.

2013 Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc

For more than 30 years, our Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc has been one of our most popular and highly regarded wines. The fruit sourced for this Sauvignon Blanc comes from vineyards located in five different appellations in Sonoma County. Fragrant aromas of white nectarine, honeydew melon and lemongrass combine with zesty citrus and tropical flavors that give way to a crisp and refreshing finish.

The 2013 vintage began with a very dry and mild spring and an early bloom. The mild summer that followed slowly matured the grapes until the first vineyards were ready to harvest in mid-September. The vineyards were picked and fermented separately in stainless steel tanks. After settling, our winemaking team selected individual lots which form a harmonious and complex blend. The wine was produced without any barrel aging or malolactic fermentation, so the distinctive varietal character of Sauvignon Blanc would carry through to the bottle.

Like Jameson, it’s also matured in a mixture of sherry casks and American oak barrels. But the bourbon barrels used in Select Reserve are toasted and charred to our Master Cooper, Ger Buckley’s exact specifications in Kentucky.

It’s a painstaking process, but well worth it. First, the freshly emptied bourbon barrels are selected and graded, before being prepared for further charring. The inside of each cask is then charred precisely according to Ger’s instructions before one final inspection confirms the deeper level of char demanded by Select Reserve.

The grain whiskey though is a special ‘Small Batch’ grain whiskey that Dave Quinn, our Master of Whiskey Science, only ever distils just once a year.

Creating the final blend, our Master Blender, Billy Leighton who carefully handpicks each cask, not based on age but the flavours they contribute, always ensuring the same signature taste profile.

All under the watchful eye of Brian Nation, our Master Distiller who oversees the whole process. To ensure we deliver the classic Jameson smooth taste, but with enhanced flavours, more intense concentrated spice, nutty notes, vanilla sweetness and sherry fruit, Select Reserve provides a rich smooth taste experience.
